City on the Hill (COH) is a family based inter-parish, inter-generational Catholic Charismatic Covenant community in Southern California founded in 1993. Our members are lay men and women, singles and married couples, who live and work in the everyday world.
While we remain faithful members of our home churches and parishes, we believe that we are called by the Lord to share our lives in a special way, and to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ as a sign of Christian unity and a means of its growth.
We are committed to support and receive any Christian who desires to share our life.
We have joined our lives together to:
• pursue holiness in our lives as we love each other as brothers and sisters in Christ
• spread the Gospel and build up Christian life in today’s world
• foster and strengthen a practical way of daily living that is rooted in our call to be disciples on mission together
We are part of the Sword of the Spirit North American Region where ecumenical communities and movements exist from the Western end up to the Eastern hemisphere of the United States, including Canada.
We are also part of the international Sword of the Spirit Community made up of Catholic and ecumenical communities spread around the world - in Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America, Central and South America. The communities in the Sword of the Spirit have a strong common culture that transcends our international and cultural differences.
We are a community of disciples on mission.
“THERE IS A GREAT NEED FOR LIVING
CHRISTIAN COMMUNITIES! AND HERE ARE THE MOVEMENTS AND THE NEW ECCLESIAL
COMMUNITIES. THEY ARE THE RESPONSE GIVEN BY THE HOLY SPIRIT, TO THIS CRITICAL
CHALLENGE AT THE END OF MILLENNIUM. YOU ARE THIS PROVIDENTIAL RESPONSE.”
- John Paul II’s address
to Members of Ecclesial Movements and New Communities May 30, 1998
